ADSactly Fun - New Year Resolutions

IMG-PHOTO-ART--1098985374.jpg

This week many of us returned to work after the New Year celebrations. Everywhere I went I heard people talk about their resolutions and what they wanted to change with the advent of a New Year.

This particular day, at the water cooler, a fierce haired lady was telling anyone who would listen that,

I want to be better to myself! That's my resolution.

I snorted at such waffling nonsense and pushed past her as she was actually blocking the way to the water spout.

Well, excuse me!

She brayed like a maddened donkey.

15654-pi_20180103144342690_20180104001545920.jpg

That's ok.

I smiled and tapped my nose.

Whenever I eat too many beans I am exactly the same!

She turned various shades of red as she realised I was implying that she was apologising for passing wind. I whistled a jaunty tune as I finished getting my water and merrily left her and her cackling band behind.

Later I was talking to another couple of chaps. One of them, a tall wild looking sort was solemnly declaring that his resolution was to,

Bag at least 10 more Munros.
Munro is a Scottish word for Mountain. No idea why we don't just say Mountain. We are a bit mad that way.

15654-pi_20180103144342690_20180104001745381.jpg

Your New Year resolution is to climb up some big hills?

I asked a little incredulously.

He looked down his long canoe shaped nose at me.

Yeah man, there is just something about being up there. Knowing you are stepping away from the common herd. Being at one with the sky and the land.

He stretched out his hands like the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio and closed his eyes breathing in through his frankly massive nostrils.

15654-pi_20180103144342690_20180104002057743.jpg

He opened his eyes and looked at me sneeringly.

You've probably never climbed a Munro and had that feeling?

I laughed like a Hyena.

I have actually, but to be honest the hundreds of tourists all milling about at the summit thinking they are at one with the land and the sky tended to put me off a bit.

The Munro climber skipped to the side as if his trousers had caught fire and made a sneeerk noise of disgust.

15654-pi_20180103144342690_20180104002304473.jpg

I leaned in and patted him on the shoulder condescendingly.

Anyway, good luck hanging out with all the tourists up them hills.

I wandered off leaving him screeching indignantly about how it wasn't just tourists that climbed the Munros. I ignored him.

Having listened to self-important, bragging resolutions all day I was a suffering a little from New Year's resolution fatigue.

I got on the train and was happy to have some time to myself when a guy I vaguely knew plumped down in the seat behind me. He was rather a large fellow. In fact he was gigantic and his frame was squishing me up against the window.

Hello Boom! Its awful being back isn't it!

I agreed then turned to look out of the window to discourage further conversation. Alas, it was not to be.

I made a New Year's resolution!

He exclaimed proudly, before continuing.

Six Pack Abs by the end of the year.

15654-pi_20180103144342690_20180104002511022.jpg

He patted his beer belly fondly whilst staring at me as if daring me to tell him it was impossible. I looked at his shining eyes, then dropped my gaze to his large beer belly then back up to his face. He jutted his jaw out as if waiting for the inevitable mockery.

Well done mate that's quite an admirable resolution for your health and your wellbeing.

I said, quite good spiritedly.

He looked puzzled, as if eating a meat-free burger at a BBQ. Then a big grin broke out on his face and he shook his head pityingly at me.

For my health? For my wellbeing? Are you mad mate? I am doing it for the ladies! The chicks man!

15654-pi_20180103144342690_20180104002649137.jpg

He patted his big belly again quite vigorously.

Oh yeah. How you doin?

He said in a strange American accent to a non-existent lady that no-one else could see.

I groaned inwardly and prayed hard for the journey to end.

Logically, who celebrates a year's loss of his life?
The smart one of us is reviewing his actions and moving forward.

The complacency of the New Year Resolution, I do not know about you but I have tried this a lot of times but it just does not work for me, I have decided to adopt a more flexible approach and just be ready for whatever situation I find myself in.

My new resolution will be manipulating between my university studings and volunteering in the orphan's house.

Well, if people really wanna change something on themselves, new year's resolutions are never needed. 90% of the guys who say they have something they want to change on their habits by making some resolutions as an excuse, never endure it until the end of the month. Basically if someone really wants to change something, put on the work. Anyway good read!

You are right and thank you!

I feel that a resoloution is supposed be the thing that starts you down the path to that work you must do. how can one accomplish something if he has not set a goal to do so? Nonetheless many people today miss the point of a creating resolution and end up languishing in their failures. Like you said its about the discipline behind the intents you set that actually generate change

I wanna travel more this year and just enjoy life a little more. My friend’s grandma passed away recently and that got me thinking that you only live once. I try so hard to save more and to spend less, but for what really? Sure I need to be ready for the rainy days and sure I need to prepare for my retirement, but I can’t let life pass me by like this either. I need to find a good balance between enjoying my life and being responsible. I’ve been responsible all my life and so I’m going to enjoy life a little this year. That’s my New Years resolution.

50

I had some new years resolution thatI want to put into action. Hopefully I can stick to it as the year ends. We will see.

51

no one exactly knows what will happen tomorrow. So planning new resolution can fail sometimes So we have to enjoy every moment of our life.you must have enjoying your life @adsactly. All the best.

25

New Year resolutions are important. It helps us improve our attitudes and get rid of wrong stuff. Keeping up with resolutions require discipline and determination. The rewards are always enormous at the end of the day!

53

Of course I made a New Year's Resolution. Carefully considered and researched, I believe I can make it work.

"I resolve to not wear a necktie this year."

I've made the same resolution for 19 consecutive years. Sadly, I have only kept it 17 times.

45

that was funny having a six packs, on of the silliest have hard was when a slim man said he is going to loose some weight this year and that was his new year resolution and i try to imagine his size with that of a pencil before the middle of the year

Hahahhahahaha...damn hilarious resolutions especially the mountain climber. But i think the fat nigga intention is actually going to do him good on healthy basis even if his intention is for the pretty ass girls. And sure i see resolution as a vision that when not achieved its a set-back for the next year. And sure a weird resolution i have heard is getting is' a girl telling me her resolution was to get her squart practice all out so she can get that mad ass for them money guys ' same category with the fatty guy but the difference was the money...nice experience you had and thanks for sharing 😁😁😁...🖒

Did you change yourself in this year? :) I wanted to change my life when new year came. But I can not still change anything...

42

I'm not really a fan of new year's resolutions custom.
What I do is simply this...

I concentrate my greater energy only on what is working for me (that's my passion) and to develop myself in getting past every barrier that may want to stifle my efforts. Above all, I must do all I can to always stay positive and muster a firm belief in God who grants good success.
Thanks

46

Oh yeah, I think we like it or not admit it, we all have resolutions every new year. The issue is that we must decide to do the things we want much more than we want them to.

Thanks for sharing.

42

I have actually made a resolution but i wouldnt exactly call it a 'new year' resolution. Labelling it as such just doesnt sit well with me. I mean does a new year have to arrive before a person betters one's self? I thought that was an everyday struggle. What i believe is that if a person wants to change something he/she does not have to wait for a new year.
Myself for example, i am still a student studying engineering but everyday i strive harder inorder to better myself, every morning i wake up i continue chasing my dream to someday better my country, and i believe that is all the resolution i need.

The funniest one I have ever heard was from my 3 year old nephew. I explained what a New Years Resolution meant and he thought long and hard about it...about 2 minutes. 2 minutes is a long time for a 3 year old!! He then firmly and pretty assertively said, "I am not going to eat my boogers anymore!!!" We still laugh about that one :) Kids not only say the darndest things...they do the darndest things too, LOL!! :)

·
27

You might not believe it but I had that one a few years ago! It was a mix of wanting to be a better person, wanting to know God and feeling that I have read so much trash over the years that I really could do worse than reading one of the oldest books ever written. Sad to say, I still haven't finished it...

I think the heart making the resolution is highly important than the time of the year it was made...weather resolutions will be broken or kept is a function of the heart of the person resolving . Most resolution are broken because the heart has not be well developed to stand by it resolutions , A boy at the age of 17 decided that if God could deliver him from His father who meet him a neighour compound stealing mango fruits , He will never eat Mango fruits again, now he is 50 years old he has kept to that resolution. Also there are people that keep failing at there resolutions irrespective of anytime it was made because because their heart has not come to level where it can rule over their body...In all their is no general rule ; The strong fall and the weak also rise in the same situation time and chance happen to them ALL. Good one

Loved the story!, the belly man is really the typical new years resolution, its either that or quit smoking in 90% of the cases (around me that is)

I make some myself sometimes, I dont always stick to them depending on what it is. But this time!!! nahh...

The silliest one Ive heard of is actually the loose wieght one, it is not silly in it self, but only because the person says that same thing everything for over a decade!

This is an interesting post. I like how descriptive you are in telling us the multiple stories of your conversations with people about their New Years resolutions. I recently wrote a post on New Years resolutions, The New Year is not a “New Start” that you might like to check out. I do not make resolutions because I think that people never stick to them. I prefer to make goals and update them throughout the year!

Damn! What's with the new year and sixpack abs - that seems to be among the top 3 on the list of resolutions for dudes (losing weight and saving money being the other two) .. :)

You're implying all of us have talked to enough people outside the house to have heard resolutions. :)

Not quite haha.

I literally just say I will continue forward with how my life is going as things are falling into place, they will come to me when they should and to not stress/worry about it too much. Just do it and be happy with any results!

Haha. Nice post. My new year resolution is to never make resolutions. Be spontaneous. Resolutions point at a destination but the fun is in the journey itself.

Oh my goodness 😂😂 this post was so funny. Well, in my case, I stopped making resolutions when I realised I found it hard to keep to them. I just live a simple life and try to be of good conduct everyday. Like I said in one of the posts on my blog, resolutions do not have to wait till the end or beginning of any year. Live everyday like it's your last. Beautiful post once again
