Daily celestial challenge- Light; NEBULAE

Happy Sunday steemians. A great stem week lies ahead of us. Today I’ll be posting on the #dailycelestialchallenge by @sirknight. Today's theme is light and during my research for this topic I came across something called the nebula. At first I stunned because I have never heard of it before so I decided to inform other steemians like myself about it.

A nebula is the Latin name for cloud or fog. Generally a nebula represents an interstellar cloud of dust, hydrogen, helium and some other ionized gases.

  1. They are mostly of vast size with some of them being hundreds of light years in diameter.
  2. Despite their large size they really don't weigh much as a nebular cloud the size of earth would sometimes weigh only a few kilograms.
  3. They are mainly visible due to their fluorescence nature brought about by hot stars embedded in them.

Different nebulae have different formation mechanisms. Some of them are produced by starts when a molecular cloud collapse under it's own weight, some of them are formed from gases that are already in the interstellar medium, some form as planetary nebulae and others form as a result of supernova explosions.

During my little research work I saw different nebulae but the particular one that caught my attention was the orion nebula know in some old books as THE GREAT NEBULA OF ORION

Did you know that the Orion nebula is the brightest nebula in the sky??? I guess you didn't. The orion nebula is so large that it occupies a region twice the size of the moon. This nebula can be viewed with the naked eyes.

The Orion nebula also called Messier 42(M42) is a diffuse nebula that is situated in the milky way, being south of Orion's belt in the constellation of Orion

The Orion nebula is the closest region of massive formation of stars to earth as it is only 1,500 light years from earth and it’s one of the most photographed objects in the night sky (this piece of information makes me wonder why I know nothing about it before now).
It is one of the most studied celestial body, it's appearance is like that of glittering precious stones.
