In 2014, a strange murder case shocked the Americans and the international community, as two girls as young as 12 tried to assassinate another partner with stabs. The reason? They wanted to belong to the cult of "Slenderman". 🔪
Slenderman is a fictional character that emerged on the Internet in 2009 as a meme. He is a tall, thin man, faceless and totally white, wearing a black suit.
According to the legend created in the network, Slender Man kidnaps children and takes them to live in the forest with them. When the character went viral, he apparently appeared in 'old' photographs (actually created by Photoshop) where he was seen next to young people or groups of children.
After the incidents in Wisconsin, the HBO channel developed a documentary that tells the story of the character on the Internet and its evolution, as well as a review of the terrifying case of the two young girls. 😖
For the documentary they recreated the facts with the coverage of the media, photographs and files of the police, interviews with suspects, community members and experts in the subject. The film opens on January 23, 2017.
Two years ago, Anissa Weier and Morgan Geyser, stabbed a coworker 19 times in the forest of Waukesha, Wisconsin, claiming that this was the way Slenderman would take them with them.
Fortunately the victim survived, as he managed to move to a nearby road, where a cyclist found her and asked for help.
According to the research, Morgan Geyser was diagnosed with schizophrenia and oppositional defiant disorder, as well as imaginary relationships with fictional characters.
Both girls were tried as adults and charged with attempted murder in the first degree.
